Home MenuWater Service Line Verification Project
Since 1989, state and federal governments have banned the use of lead in materials used by public water suppliers, such as water service lines. The City of Panama City Beach is committed to providing safe, clean, and high-quality drinking water to all residents. Here are some important things to know:
- The City of Panama City Beach regularly tests for lead and other contaminants as required by state and federal regulations.
- In the past 30 years, only two customers were found to have lead in their service lines.
- The City’s drinking water meets and exceeds the standards set by state and federal governments.
Inventory of Water Service Lines
Although Panama City Beach has a relatively new water utility infrastructure, some older lines that predate the 1989 lead ban still exist in the system. Here’s what the City is doing to ensure the safety of your water.
- In 2023, the City’s Utilities Department began an inventory of water service lines to identify any that may contain lead. To date, none have been found.
If Lead is Found During the Inventory
If lead is discovered during the ongoing inspections, the City will take the following steps:
- Notification: City staff will notify the customer or account holder of the findings.
- Replacement: If a finding of lead is confirmed, the City will replace any water service transmission lines from the main water line to the customer’s meter.
- Support: If desired, the City’s Utilities Department will work with the customer to help offset costs related to any necessary replacements on the customer’s side.
