Daryl Paul has served as the Beach Safety Director for Panama City Beach since 2023, bringing years of experience and a deep passion for ocean safety to the role. A Panama City Beach native, Daryl has been with the City’s Fire Rescue Department since 2017 and considers the beach his second home.
As Beach Safety Director, Daryl oversees a team of 20 full-time beach lifeguards—the largest full-time lifeguard staff in the city’s history. Under his leadership, Panama City Beach’s lifeguards have significantly improved beach safety, reducing rescues while increasing preventative actions.
In 2024, his team took 32% more preventative actions than in 2023, helping to reduce public assists by 85% and rescues by 69%. This shows how their proactive efforts made the beach safer.
Daryl is a strong advocate for beachgoer safety, emphasizing the importance of following the beach flag warning system and swimming in designated areas with lifeguard supervision. The presence of trained lifeguards dramatically reduces the risk of drowning, making it essential for visitors to choose safe swimming locations. Through education, prevention, and swift response, Daryl and his team are dedicated to keeping Panama City Beach’s shores safe for residents and visitors alike.
The Beach Safety Division is a United States Lifesaving Association accredited agency; and annually maintains an Aquatics Rapid Response Team (ARRT) certification.
