Notice of Public Comment Period for Panama City Beach Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Funding Application
The State of Florida has allocated $111 million to the Rebuild Florida Hurricane Michael General Infrastructure Repair Program funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR). The goal of the program is to repair damage to infrastructure while mitigating against future damage to make the community more resilient. The City of Panama City Beach proposes applying for one (1) project primarily focused on repairing and mitigating wastewater issues worsened by the impacts from Hurricane Michael. The Septic to Sanitary Sewer Conversion at South Grand Lagoon Project will improve a service area in Panama City Beach by converting a septic system to a sewer system including gravity and force mains (sewage pipes), and lift stations to transport the sewage to the local Wastewater Treatment Plant. A centralized sewer system eliminates marginally-treated septic system discharges to groundwater and nearby water bodies. Elimination of septic systems and their associated discharges results in a more resilient, reliable, and sustainable sanitary sewer system. The amount of CDBG-DR funding being requested for this project is approximately $24 million.
